Finger Lakes Natural Health to Relax

About a month ago, I had a massage at Finger Lakes Natural Health in Naples with Greta Selin-Love--my first visit. WOW is all I can say. What a great way to get rid of some stress; I was hooked. Today I was there for my second appointment. FLNH is a little office located on the second floor of a building Main St in Naples, very quaint cozy and Greta immediately made me feel comfortable. You can engage in light conversation or no conversation at all, whatever you prefer. For almost an hour I enjoyed soft music, warm blankets and a wonderful massage that relaxed me literally from head to toe. I asked Greta if anyone ever refuses to leave...because I came close! :-) I've booked my next appointment and for future reference to all my family--you'll never have to ask me what I want for my birthday or holidays...here's your answer...another massage! Appointments can be made at 585-374-8830. Need a special gift for someone? Gift certificates are available too (hint).

Finger Lakes Wintery Day in January

Ouch! has it really been 5 weeks since I last posted.? Shame on me. But seriously, if I can defend myself (only I can do this), I survived the holidays, family obligations, retiring from my full-time job (what was I thinking) and now working hard to set up my own little business working from home. So please be patient with me, I do intend to get back on track here.

Here we are in January 09 waiting for another COLD and wintery spell this week. I've got some new photos and videos to share. so let's see if I can get them uploaded. Also there are some great fun winter things to do besides skiing if that's not your bag.

Need something fun to do this weekend? Try a sleigh ride at Granger Homestead on Sunday afternoons. There's even hot chocolate served after your snowy ride. There's movies and great theater productions at The Smith Opera House too. Or even better than that some good old fashioned comfort food like chicken pot pies to end the perfect winter day.

Here's some of my newest winter photos:

Here's my rugged "mountain men" out in the snow...although they didn't get farther than the back deck. Tough and rugged they are, Yessiree!

That's all ...more coming soon. INK off for now.

Winter Scenes in the Finger Lakes

No matter where I go or what the season, I love to take pictures of winter in the Finger Lakes. As the snow falls and the holidays approach, there's beautiful holiday lights and decorations everywhere. I have to admit, I'm not an outdoor winter enthusiast, you'll typically find me inside byt the fireplace with a good book and a glass of fine Finger Lakes wine. BUT...after a snowfall, I can't get outside fast enough with my camera to capture the breathtaking beauty of the freshly fallen, snow.

Here are just a couple of my favorites.
Ice crystals on the kitchen door. Brrrr it's cold out there this morning. The snow on the deck crunches under your feet.

The cardinals dance in the bushes and look like well-placed ornaments as they scramble to gather the sunflower seed falling from the living room window feeder above.

How about this sunset along Ontario Beach on Canandaigua Lake? I stopped one night on my way home from work, just to watch the sunset over the lake. It was so peaceful.
There's always something beautiful to photograph here. Next time, I 'll share some winter wild life photos.

Thanksgiving Week is Here

It's already the weekend before Thanksgiving. Where did the time go? I love that there is so much to do here this weekend, but I've got lots of things to get done this weekend at home as we are traveling to Norfolk, MA for the holiday to visit with family (Phil and Andra) and also meet our newest granddaughter, Avery who is now two months old. Taking the Wegman's turkey dinner with us and lots of good Finger Lakes wine to share with everyone. It'll be a true "over the river and through the woods trip to Grandma's house" for sure except it's Grandma who is doing the traveling...just hope it doesn't end up that "Grandma got run over by a reindeer!" :-) Poppy will be making his famous scalloped oysters - always a family request. My favorite is usally the left overs actually. There's something about a hot, turkey sandwich the day after --it is so yum. You can also use the leftover dressing, turkey and gravy to layer in a casserole (turkey first, then gravy, then dressing on top). Just heat it til the dressing is a little crunchy on top and serve over or with rice. Yikes, I'm getting hungrier by the minute. Oh, well that's next week to look forward to. What's this weekend all about?

This weekend we'll spend with our 4-year-old grandson, Nicholas, and with all the snow hopefully we can make the first snowman of the year. This is the road to our cabin and Poppy and Nicholas are lovin' their winter walk. It'll be a popcorn and a movie night tonight for sure (that's tradition at Grandma and Poppy's house). We just bought the new movie Wall-E. I'll keep you posted on how Nicholas "reviews" it.

Safe travels to all who are traveling for the Thanksgiving weekend. Happy and healthy eating!

Snow in the Finger Lakes

The snow is here. Bristol Mountain is making snow hoping to open early next week. Great skiing can be found there with a 1200' vertical rise--there's even cross-country at the summit with miles of lighted trails. Check it out www.bristolmountain.com. There's a webcam on the site as well so you can actually see how much snow there is or if its even snowing! Relax in the evening after your day of skiing at one of the many lodging properties and enjoy some great local cuisine and wine. You can stop at any of the wineries along the Canandaigua Wine Trail on your way to Bristol Mountain to pick up your evening dining wines. www.Canandaiguawinetrail.com or www.VisitFingerLakes.com. Bundle up and get outdoors in the Finger Lakes this winter--there's lots to do.

Cool Finger Lakes Morning

Bet you thought I was lost. Actually no, I was away for awhile visiting my granddaughter near Savannah Georgia and enjoying the wonderfully mild weather. Now here I am back in the Finger Lakes sitting at work on a cold, but sunny Monday. Weather is calling for snow later today guess we can't be fussy with such a nice fall. Heading towards Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday is hard to believe. There's a ton of great events for the holidays, Festival of Trees at Granger Homestead in Canandaigua, Santa is arriving just about everywhere for the kids and shopping couldnt' be better -- you can find a really unique handmade gift for everyone on your list at many local Finger Lakes stores. Check out www.VisitFingerLakes.com for events and for shopping. And once the snow arrives skiiers can head for Bristol Mountain, www.BristolMountain.com .

Finger Lakes in the Fall

There's so much to do! I love the Finger Lakes! Scenic foliage drives, wineries, events and festivals...pick your own pumpkins--go to a farmer's market and get freshly picked fruits and vegetables. Then prepare a culinary delight. You can even take a class at the New York Wine & Culinary Center located in Canandaigua--New York State food and wine at its best! I have learned everything from flipping omelets to holiday hors d'oeuvres...a great time. I've lived here all my life and am still finding hidden treasures every day. Every season it gets better and better.
